A New Beginning

The cool evening breeze soothes your skin after a day in the tropical heat.

You look around at the couple’s laughing, the friends joking, the lonely girl sipping on her coffee. You envy them but you must work.

Your mind considers beginning…

New beginnings. They happen every day, every moment. And yet the first step can often be the hardest.

Over the past few months you made the changes you’ve been pondering for years. You’ve quit that cubicle job that sucked the life out of you. You’ve booked the plane ticket to the other side of the World. You’re embarking on a new path.

Beginnings.

What do we mean when we say “beginning?” The start of the next transformation, the next change.

Life is change. Nothing stays the same. To experience change one much begin anew.

To begin.

Over the years you’ve begun many things. Many you haven’t finished. But each day you begin anew.

You’ve written daily for years. However, when you see the blank screen staring at you, for a brief moment all that experience washes away. The longing to be free, to do anything other than sit down and stare at the blank screen, gnaws at you.

How did I do this yesterday? You wonder.

But you don your headphones, turn over your phone, push through the murky haze and begin. That’s all there is to it. You commit, shut out the outside world. And you begin typing.

After a minute your thinking remains fuzzy. A few more minutes and you start to get the hang of it. Soon, you can recall how you’ve often enjoyed this.

Finally, you enter Flow. The proverbial monkey’s no longer on your back.

Who knows where today’s writing journey take you but you’ve struggled and you’ve pushed and you’ve begun and you are now being carried by the muse.

Once again you’ve done it.

A new beginning.
